Say What? DNC Chair Candidate: 'My Job Is To Shut Other White People Down!'
The chair of the Democratic National Committee is supposed to help his partys candidates win elections, but according to candidate Sally Boynton Brown, her job as the DNC chair would be to shut down white people who dare to interrupt the conversation. Brown, who serves as the executive director of the Idaho Democratic Party and is white herself, took to the stage on Monday nights DNC Chair Candidates Forum moderated by MSNBCs Joy Reid with a decidedly racial message. Kicking off her speech by stating, black lives matter, and noting that white leaders of the Democratic party have failed to adequately address issues related to white privilege. My job is to listen and be a voice and shut other white people down when they want to interrupt, she said to applause from the other DNC chair candidates. My job is to shut other white people down when they want to say, Oh, no, Im not prejudiced. Im a Democrat, Im accepting. Later, Brown blasted white Democrats for talking a lot of smack and made sure to repeatedly mention that she was listening to people of color, who have the answers and can tell me as a leader what I need to do.
